I love that Guy as Kakashi's best friend gives you a whole new perspective on Kakashi's weirdness, and vice versa.

I think Iruka does something similar -- though less delightfully wacky and perspective-shifting. I love that he is a 9 to 5 ninja with an unglamorous job and none of the celebrity status. He's such a fantastic counterpoint to the infamous war heroes and also a hotbed for world-building day-to-day ninja life. It sounds silly, but I find stories that want desperately to build Iruka up as "Well, he could have been a jounin if he wanted to", etc, to be boring -- I'm shaking my fist at the screen, going, "What! Come on! Tell me more about his paperwork, god damn it!"
