(5 sec guide: Raksura are shape-shifters with interesting politics, reversed gender roles, and sharp claws. I recommend the books.)


The Basic Idea
I will draw you a BOOKS OF THE RAKSURA picture as a prompt for a BOOKS OF THE RAKSURA story. Your story must be about 1K words (or more), and it must be written so that the picture (on some level) makes sense as an illustration for your story.

Deadlines and Finished Stories
I will give you a mostly-finished sketch within a month of your request. Please pick a reasonable deadline for yourself (e.g. 2-3 months post receipt of picture). When your story is finished, the story will be posted with embedded art to AO3 with you and me as coauthors. Then we wait for fame and glory.

PLEASE DO
Expect that your picture might have ANYTHING in it. You are happy about this! It's a challenge!
Interpret your prompt in ANY WAY that works for you. If I can draw anything, you can write anything.
Keep me updated on how you are doing, even if how you are doing is AWFUL AND QUITTING IN TEARS.

PLEASE DON'T
Realize you don't know what to write, feel guilty, and go AWOL so I don't get mad at you. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I WILL GET MAD AT YOU. The instant you email me to LET ME KNOW what your status is, that is the instant I stop being mad. SCOUT'S HONOR.

This fandom is small. I can probably draw as many pictures as people want. If too many sign up, I'll pick a mix of people I know and people I don't.

3) Sure! I'd love to give it a try. I haven't written a thing since last yuletide, so this may be the thing that gets me writing again.

4) Moon and Chime are my best buds, and I love Jade. I'm happy with any of the Raksuran characters, even the babies and Pearl. I don't think I would write from the Tree's perspective, but then again, the tree lost and found again could be cool.

5) Wow, I can't think of something you'd draw that would make me unhappy. I'm fine with crack and AUs, and alternative POVs. Maybe...No Fish?

6) Surprise me! This sounds like a hoot and while I might not write the best story every, 1K words is doable and the universe makes me happy.

4) I'm perfectly happy with anything involving any of the named Raksura or "human" tribes. The more the merrier in fact. Writing dialogue is a favorite of mine, so the more people to talk with each other, the better.
5) NO ROMANCE. Romance + me = fail party. "Relationships" are totally fine. AUs are fine.
6) 2-3 sketches, please. If that's convenient.

I only just read the latter two books and am currently super enthused about Raksura, so the sooner the better!
ANYTHING. Bring it on.
I like Moon! And pretty much everybody else! And the short story The Forest Boy on Wells' website was entrancing! I am interested in how Moon gets along with other consorts! And eats fish!
IF NOBODY IS RAKSURAN AT ALL, I WILL SULK. (I mean, groundling forms ok, boybands not so much!)
I would of course be thrilled to see more ideas earlier, if that is how you would like to work!

If I say I will have it done in three months I am far too likely to wait two months and twenty-nine days to start it, and I would really like to be working on it, like, the week after you show me, unless my life is schedule-crazy right then (as it is periodically). So if I tell you my goal is ASAP, and then hopefully we will not be waiting three months for my story, does that work?

Sorry I didn't reply right away, this weekend has been one of those schedule-crazy times I just mentioned.

(The reason for this is not you, it's me. I don't draw as well and spend a lot of time freaking out if I'm worried that something I draw is just Not Going to Work. I mean, you have seen my art - that is probably what I'm going to draw.)

Seeing all of your treehouse reversebang posts on tumblr reminded me that I wanted to ask if this prompt post was still open? I'd love to participate, if so, I've loved the Raksura books since they started coming out, and would love the push to write more fic about them.

Because this is such a small fandom, I'm willing to just leave it open forever (more fic! more fic!). However response time from me will be slow. What I'd like to do is finish a sketch to the point of you being able to write for it, and then I'll finish the picture (final coloring, and tweaks, etc) once you have a finished draft. Does that sound good to you?

Cool, thanks. What's your feeling on a picture that isn't Jade, Moon, or Chime? Do you want to write within those three or outside of them?

Because for me, I am still happy to draw more Moon, Jade, and Chime because I love them, but if someone doesn't say "Big three only," there is a strong chance I'll draw you Shade, Shadow, Ice, Stone, Azure, Indigo, Cloud, Malachite, Celadon, Onyx, Umber, Root, Flower, Ember, Frost, maybe some Fell, etc, etc...
